Swords & Boobies

I grew up in the 70's and was highly imprinted by the fantastic art of Frank Frazetta.  I was also inundated with hot women from 60's syndicated television shows like Star Trek & Batman. So my imprint was on shapely women, not Twiggy knock-offs.  Women like this:

So with that in mind, while writing the fantasy supplement to Brink of Battle, Epic Heroes, I was inspired to include some miniatures that captured this stereotype.  I mean let's face it, the fantasy genre is rife with sexuality, and is further fueled by the mythological archetype of the Damsel in Distress.

Now, while I disagree with this premise, and personally don't view women in that way, I thought it would be theme appropriate for the 'era & genre' if I used some nekkid female harem girls as 'Objective' Markers for use with my Epic Heroes games.  Yeah, shameless, I know.

David Soderquist's Dead Earth Imperials range has such figures.  I wanted them totally nude, but the metal they are cast in is pretty unyielding, so I'll just paint them in their g-strings.  Here's our updated pics of Bob & Drew's Excellent Fantasy Adventure thread on the Lead Adventure Forum.

I'll get some paint on them soon, but for now the update is just primer.  Here's the rest of my bunch and Drew's Skaarsgard Marauders primed up.

Thanksgiving thoughts

Today is my favorite holiday. Why? Because of something I read years ago. I saw it in a calendar of daily aphorisms. I don't recall the author, but it said, "If Pride is the greatest sin, then Ingratitude is the most common."

The other reason Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday is that I think the act of consciously stopping to recognize what you have, and being grateful for it, regardless o...
f your theological or philosophical bent, is a powerful psychological reset.

And I love gravy, and this is the most gravy laden holiday of the year.

I am grateful for the love in my life. For the people in my life. For my ability to walk, talk, think, and feel. For the country I live in, and the freedoms I enjoy. I am also grateful for the problems, challenges, sufferings, and pain that I have had in my life, which has given me cause to rise to the occasion and to become a stronger, wiser, and healthier man. And a grizzled old bastard.

Be grateful for your life, because someone, somewhere is wishing they had what you have, troubles and all.

Happy Thanksgiving. :)

Prepare to be Judged!!!

Drew and I just watched the new Judge Dredd movie starring Karl Urban.  Frakking FLAWLESS!!!

I've been reading Dredd for years, and this movie is a perfect blend of grit, blood, and bullets.  There wasn't a weak scene in the whole film.

I highly recommend this movie, and encourage all of you to see it this weekend so we can have another one down the road.

I'm baaaaaack!

Well, my hiatus from all things Brink of Battle came to a close with our excellent trip to Pacificon Game Expo over the Labor Day weekend.

Now its back to the marketing plan tonight with Mike & Jim from The Launchpad. Then its on to more work on Epic Heroes, and simultaneously the vehicles supplement. I will make the formal announcements as to our release schedule, etc.

In the mean time, haven't done a stitch of painting, but that may also change soon.

BATMASS!

For the past seven years I have been observing my own personal holiday: Batmass.

It is the one day a year where I practice Unresponsibility. Not Irresponsibility; Unresponsibility. I get all of my duties in order, and have one whole day where I watch Batman movies and eat whatever I want. I don't make plans, I drift back and forth to the theater or have friends over to play Heroclix or Vs.

Usually its held on June 15th, which is when Batman Begins was first released. Unless there is a new Batman movie in that year, then Batmass is moved to the release date of that movie. Such is the case this year.

I really hope this last Christopher Nolan/Christian Bale film is beyond fantastic. I will go in with no expectations.

So next friday, go support the franchise!

Happy Batmass everyone!

IRONCLAD!!!

I literally bumped into James Purefoy on the main floor at Comicon 2009. Damn nice guy. Definitely my favorite actor for Medieval/Renaissance movies. While I await the release of Solomon Kane starring Jim, I was nudged by my bro Drew to buy this. Watched it.

Fuck. YES!!! I have a soft spot for Templars to begin with. Purefoy is perfect. Add Paul Giamatti, Vladimir Kulich, and Brian Cox and you have a hardass medieval bashfest. Grab your greatsword and stomp the yard!

A new arrival in the Wychwood!

I'm narrowing in on my last few models to complete the Warthorne Tempest. Just need to add a couple of more archers to fill out my Standard Force Organization. Here's my latest addition, who has been patiently waiting to get painted. He's a Satyr Centaur, or a Sataur, or maybe a Centyr, or we'll just call him Urghaz Braybold, Keeper of Storms.

Brink of Battle Fantasy Play Test Pics!

Took a gob of photos from our Fantasy playtest games yesterday here at Fausthaus. Unfortunately, I'm a dumbass and most of the best battle report pics were blurry. I need to get a small stand for my camera. So, until I do the write up on our games, feast your eyes on what I have below. I'll explain what's what in the battle reports.

This one above I've entitled, "Oh shit!" :)

Elf forces are mine and the Dwarfs are Drew's. We had a good time and will update you all soon on the battles.
